Four Working Groups structure the work of PILLS
Different experts of the PILLS partners are represented in Working Groups in order to deliver the project activities.
Analysis Working Group
Analysis of pharmaceutically burdened waste water is the first step and the basis for all the further work that needs to be done. This working group group characterises the effluent of hospitals and identify key pharmaceuticals in the hospital waste water.
Technology Working Group
Different ways of treating pharmaceutically burdened waste water are evaluated and tested at the various partner locations. All partners concentrate on entry points, such as hospitals or care homes.
The discovery of adapted techniques which are cost-effective is the core objective of this Working Group.
Assessment Working Group
The synthesis of results from the different pilot projects of the partners is in the focus at this stage. As the partners working on the same problem come from different backgrounds and have different qualifications, the collection and comparison of the results is the main focus of the integrative assessment.
The aim is to present recommendations about useful treatment possibilities for pharmaceutically burdened waste water, which can be adopted at different places and under different conditions (e.g. different administrative frameworks).
Communication Working Group
Several communication activities are carried out by the PILLS partnership. The project partnership aims to enhance knowledge transfer between science, politics and practice. Therefore networks for the exchange of knowledge and for the dissemination of the projects´ results are established.
Furthermore the partnership aims to raise awareness of the need for changes in behaviour regarding pharmaceuticals in waste water throughout Europe. This is not only relevant at highly concentrated entry points but also for water use in daily life. Raising awareness is the key to transfering the project results to other regions and similar situations.
